Welcome to SCACC!
We're excited that you've chosen to volunteer with Saginaw County Animal Care & Control! Whether you're hoping to walk dogs, spend time with cats, help behind the scenes, or support special events, every volunteer begins with the same onboarding process.
Our goal is to make sure you feel confident, prepared, and supported before volunteering independently.
Step 1: Submit Your Application
Create your Get Connected account, complete your volunteer application, and sign all required waivers. Click the sign-up button at the top of the page. If you are on your mobile device, you can locate it by clicking on the white box at the top right side of your phone.
Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by the Volunteer Coordinator.
Please note, you need to be at least 14 years of age to volunteer. If you are a minor, a parent/guardian will need to accompany you while you volunteer.
Parent/guardian and minor duos, please make separate accounts.
Step 2: Application Approval
Once your application has been approved, you'll receive access to register for an upcoming New Volunteer Orientation.
Orientation is the first opportunity you'll register for.
Step 3: Attend Orientation
During orientation you'll learn:
- About SCACC and our mission
- Volunteer expectations
- Safety procedures
- Volunteer levels
- How to use Get Connected
- What happens after orientation
- Tour the shelter
This is also the perfect time to ask questions!
Step 4: Complete Your Required Training
After orientation, you'll register for your required training activities.
Depending on your volunteer interests, this may include:
- Dog Training (must be at least 18 years old to work with dogs)
- Cat Training
- Tidy Tails Training
These hands-on training shifts are designed to help you learn alongside SCACC staff or experienced volunteers before volunteering independently.
Step 5: Volunteer Independently
Once you've completed your required onboarding and training, you'll be ready to begin signing up for volunteer opportunities on your own.
Congratulations—you'll officially be part of the SCACC volunteer team!
