Public Volunteers & Community Groups

Looking for a simple way to give back? Whether you have an hour or an afternoon, we'd love to have you!

Our Public Volunteer Program provides a flexible way for individuals, families, and community members to support Saginaw County Animal Care & Control through hands-on projects that help our staff and the animals in our care.

Drop-In Public Volunteers

No application is required!

Simply stop by during our public hours, check in at the front desk, and complete a volunteer waiver before getting started.

Public volunteers may assist with tasks such as:

  • Lobby and public area cleaning

  • Preparing enrichment items

  • Other shelter projects as needed

These opportunities are designed to support the shelter and do not include direct animal handling.

Community Groups

Community groups are a wonderful way to make a meaningful impact while working together!

We welcome schools, businesses, clubs, youth organizations, churches, and other community groups of 4–15 participants.

To schedule a group volunteer project, please email the Volunteer Coordinator at least two weeks in advance of your preferred volunteer date. Advance scheduling allows us to prepare meaningful projects, coordinate staff support, and ensure we have enough work available for your group.

Group projects are based on the shelter's current needs and may include:

  • Organization projects

  • Donation sorting

  • Laundry

  • Enrichment preparation

  • Cleaning projects

  • Seasonal projects

  • Other shelter improvement activities

We look forward to partnering with your group and helping you make a positive impact for the animals and our community!
